Ingredients

Pasta

  • 12 large tubes cannelloni or jumbo shells for filling the dish

Filling

  • 1 lb ground beef ground turkey or chicken can be used for a leaner option
  • 1 small onion chopped
  • 2 cloves garlic minced
  • 1 teaspoon Italian seasoning for flavor
  • 1/2 teaspoon salt adjust to taste
  • 1/4 teaspoon black pepper adjust for spiciness
  • 1 cup ricotta cheese for creaminess
  • 1 cup shredded mozzarella cheese for topping
  • 1/2 cup grated Parmesan cheese for flavor
  • 1 large egg for binding

Sauce

  • 3 cups marinara sauce for coating the pasta
  • Fresh basil leaves optional, for garnish

Instructions

Cooking Steps

  • Bring a large pot of salted water to a boil. Cook the pasta tubes according to package instructions until al dente. Drain and rinse under cold water. Set aside to cool slightly.
  • In a large skillet over medium heat, add the ground beef, chopped onion, and minced garlic. Cook until the beef is browned and the onion is soft, about 5-7 minutes. Drain any excess fat.
  • Stir in the Italian seasoning, salt, and pepper. Remove from heat and let the mixture cool slightly.
  • In a bowl, combine the cooked beef mixture, ricotta cheese, mozzarella cheese, Parmesan cheese, and the beaten egg. Mix until well combined.
  • Using a spoon or a piping bag, fill each pasta tube with the beef and cheese mixture.
  • Preheat your oven to 375°F (190°C).
  • In a baking dish, spread about 1 cup of marinara sauce on the bottom.
  • Place the stuffed pasta tubes in the baking dish, side by side. Pour the remaining marinara sauce over the top.
  • Sprinkle additional shredded mozzarella cheese over the top.
  • Cover the baking dish with aluminum foil and bake for 25 minutes. Remove the foil and bake for an additional 10-15 minutes, or until the cheese is bubbly and golden.
  • Remove from the oven and let cool slightly. Garnish with fresh basil leaves if desired.
  • Serve the Beef & Cheese Stuffed Pasta Tubes warm.

Notes

For best results, cook pasta al dente and use a piping bag for easier stuffing.
