Ingredients

Dough

  • 1 cup unsalted butter softened
  • 1 cup granulated sugar
  • 1 cup brown sugar
  • 2 large eggs
  • 2 teaspoons vanilla extract
  • 2 cups all-purpose flour
  • 3/4 cup unsweetened cocoa powder
  • 1 teaspoon baking soda
  • 1/2 teaspoon salt
  • 1 cup semi-sweet chocolate chips

Filling

  • 1 cup chocolate fudge sauce for filling

Instructions

Preparation

  • Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C). Line a baking sheet with parchment paper.
  • Cream together the softened butter, granulated sugar, and brown sugar in a large mixing bowl until light and fluffy.
  • Beat in the eggs one at a time and stir in the vanilla extract until well combined.
  • Whisk together the flour, cocoa powder, baking soda, and salt in a separate bowl.
  • Combine the dry ingredients with the wet mixture, mixing until just combined. Fold in the chocolate chips.
  • Scoop out a portion of cookie dough, flatten it slightly, and add about 1 teaspoon of chocolate fudge sauce in the center.
  • Seal the fudge sauce by folding the edges of the dough over it, rolling into a ball.
  • Arrange the filled cookie dough balls on the prepared baking sheet, spacing them about 2 inches apart.
  • Bake for 10-12 minutes, until the edges are set while the centers remain soft.
  • Cool the cookies on the baking sheet for about 5 minutes before transferring to a wire rack.
  • Serve warm for the best lava effect.

Notes

Top with a sprinkle of sea salt for added contrast to the sweet chocolate.
