  • Mixing bowl
  • Stand Mixer
  • Baking Sheet
  • Plastic Wrap
  • Bread Lame
  • Cooling Rack

Ingredients

Dough Ingredients

  • 3.5 cups Bread Flour for that perfect structure and chewiness
  • 1.5 teaspoons Salt enhances the overall flavor profile
  • 1.25 teaspoons Active Dry Yeast (or Instant Yeast) to help the dough rise beautifully
  • 1.25 cups Warm Water at 105°F (40°C) activates the yeast for baking magic
  • 1 teaspoon Sugar optional, but adds a hint of sweetness

Flavor Enhancements

  • 1 handful Herbs such as rosemary, thyme, or oregano
  • 1 handful Seeds such as poppy, sesame, or flax seeds for crunch

Instructions

Baguette Preparation Steps

  • Prepare Yeast: If using active dry yeast, dissolve it in warm water with a pinch of sugar and let sit for 5–10 minutes until it becomes foamy.
  • Mix Ingredients: In a large bowl, combine the bread flour and salt. Gradually add the yeast mixture or warm water, stirring until a rough dough begins to form.
  • Knead Dough: Transfer the dough to a floured surface and knead for 8–10 minutes. If using a stand mixer, knead for about 5–6 minutes.
  • First Rise: Shape the dough into a ball and place it in an oiled bowl. Cover it and let it rise in a warm spot for 1–1.5 hours.
  • Divide and Rest: Once risen, punch down the dough and divide it into 4–6 equal pieces. Let them rest for 10–15 minutes.
  • Shape Baguettes: Roll each piece into a 6–8 inch long cylinder, placing them seam-side down on a lined baking sheet.
  • Final Proof: Cover the baguettes and let them proof for 30–45 minutes. Preheat your oven to 450°F (230°C).
  • Score Baguettes: Make 2–3 diagonal slashes on the top of each baguette with a bread lame or sharp razor.
  • Bake: Bake the baguettes for 18–22 minutes, until golden and crusty.
  • Cool and Serve: Transfer the baguettes to a cooling rack and let them rest for at least 15 minutes before slicing.

Notes

Consider adding herbs and seeds for extra flavor. Store leftovers at room temperature or in the fridge to maintain freshness.
