For the Filling
- 1 pound Ground beef can substitute with ground turkey or lentils
- 1 medium Onion finely chopped
- 2 cloves Garlic minced
- 1 teaspoon Cumin
- 1 teaspoon Paprika smoked paprika for enhanced flavor
- to taste Salt
- to taste Pepper
For the Dough
- 12 Empanada dough discs homemade or store-bought
- 1 large Egg beaten for egg wash
Preparation
Preheat your oven to 400°F (200°C).
Sauté the onion and garlic in a skillet over medium heat until soft and fragrant, about 3-4 minutes.
Brown the ground beef by adding it to the skillet along with cumin, paprika, salt, and pepper. Cook for about 5-7 minutes.
Cool the mixture slightly after removing the skillet from heat.
Fill an empanada dough disc with a spoonful of the beef mixture.
Fold over the dough to create a half-moon shape and seal the edges tightly with a fork.
Brush the tops with the beaten egg.
Bake in the preheated oven for 20-25 minutes, or until golden brown and flaky.
Serve with your favorite salsa for added flavor.
