Ingredients

For the Filling

  • 1 pound Ground beef can substitute with ground turkey or lentils
  • 1 medium Onion finely chopped
  • 2 cloves Garlic minced
  • 1 teaspoon Cumin
  • 1 teaspoon Paprika smoked paprika for enhanced flavor
  • to taste Salt
  • to taste Pepper

For the Dough

  • 12 Empanada dough discs homemade or store-bought
  • 1 large Egg beaten for egg wash

Instructions

Preparation

  • Preheat your oven to 400°F (200°C).
  • Sauté the onion and garlic in a skillet over medium heat until soft and fragrant, about 3-4 minutes.
  • Brown the ground beef by adding it to the skillet along with cumin, paprika, salt, and pepper. Cook for about 5-7 minutes.
  • Cool the mixture slightly after removing the skillet from heat.
  • Fill an empanada dough disc with a spoonful of the beef mixture.
  • Fold over the dough to create a half-moon shape and seal the edges tightly with a fork.
  • Brush the tops with the beaten egg.
  • Bake in the preheated oven for 20-25 minutes, or until golden brown and flaky.

Notes

Serve with your favorite salsa for added flavor.
