Ingredients

Scone Dough

  • 1/2 cup Cold butter Keep chilled for best texture
  • 1 cup Heavy cream Can use half-and-half
  • 1 tablespoon Orange zest Zest the outer layer

Add-ins

  • 1/2 cup Dried cranberries Can substitute with raisins or chocolate chips

Instructions

Making the Scones

  • Preheat your oven to 400°F (200°C).
  • Mix the dry ingredients in a large bowl: combine the flour, sugar, baking powder, salt, and ground cardamom until well blended.
  • Cut in the cold butter until the mixture resembles coarse crumbs.
  • Stir in the heavy cream, orange zest, and dried cranberries until just combined.
  • Turn the dough onto a floured surface and gently knead it a few times.
  • Pat the dough into a circle about 1-inch thick and cut it into wedges.
  • Place the scone wedges on a baking sheet lined with parchment paper, and bake for 15-20 minutes until golden brown.
  • Cool the scones on a wire rack for a few minutes before serving.

Notes

For extra sweetness, drizzle with a glaze of powdered sugar and orange juice.
