How to Make Shrimp Sausage Dirty Rice

  • In a large pot, warm the olive oil over medium heat. It should shimmer gently.
  • Add the sliced smoked sausage to the pot. Cook until it’s nicely browned, about 5-7 minutes.
  • Stir in the diced onion, bell pepper, celery, and minced garlic. Sauté until the onion is translucent and everything is tender, around 3-4 minutes.
  • Mix in the long-grain rice and Cajun seasoning. Cook for about 2 minutes, stirring to coat the rice with all those savory flavors.
  • Add the chicken broth, increasing the heat to bring it to a boil.
  • Reduce the heat, cover the pot, and let it simmer for 15 minutes.
  • Uncover the pot and gently fold in the shrimp. Cook until they turn pink and are cooked through, about 3-5 minutes.
  • Taste your creation and season with salt and pepper as desired. Serve hot and enjoy!

Notes

Optional: Garnish with fresh parsley for a pop of color and freshness.
