Equipment

  • Baking Sheet
  • Parchment paper
  • large bowl
  • small saucepan

Ingredients

For the Meatballs

  • 1 lb Ground turkey a lean protein that's perfect for making juicy meatballs.
  • 1 cup Breadcrumbs helps bind the mixture together; use plain or panko for extra crunch.
  • 1/2 cup Grated Parmesan cheese adds a rich, savory flavor to the meatballs.
  • 1/4 cup Fresh parsley (chopped) brings a fresh taste and vibrant color.
  • 1 large Large egg acts as a binding agent, keeping the meatballs moist.
  • 2 cloves Garlic (minced) infuses the meatballs with aromatic flavor.
  • 1 tsp Salt enhances all the delicious flavors in the meatballs.
  • 1/2 tsp Black pepper adds a mild heat that's perfectly balanced with sweetness.
  • 1 tsp Onion powder gives an extra layer of flavor without the crunch.

For the Sauce

  • 1/2 cup Sweet chili sauce the star ingredient that adds a delightful sweet and sticky glaze to the turkey meatballs.
  • 2 tbsp Soy sauce introduces a touch of saltiness that complements the sweet chili flavor.
  • 1 tbsp Rice vinegar adds a bit of tang to balance the sweetness.
  • 1 tbsp Sesame oil (optional) provides a nutty aroma that enhances the dish.

For Assembly

  • 4 pcs Sub rolls (or hoagie rolls) the perfect vessel for your flavorful meatballs and toppings.
  • 2 cups Shredded lettuce adds freshness and a crunchy texture to each bite.
  • 1 cup Sliced cucumbers (optional) offers a cool, crisp complement to the dish.
  • 1/4 cup Sliced green onions (optional) provides a pop of color and a subtle onion flavor for garnish.

Instructions

Preparation

  • Preheat your oven to 400°F (200°C). Line a baking sheet with parchment paper.
  • Combine the ground turkey, breadcrumbs, Parmesan cheese, parsley, egg, minced garlic, salt, pepper, and onion powder in a large bowl. Mix until just combined.
  • Form the mixture into meatballs, about 1 to 1.5 inches in diameter. Arrange them on the prepared baking sheet.
  • Bake the meatballs for about 15-20 minutes, or until they are cooked through and golden brown.

Sauce

  • Whisk together the sweet chili sauce, soy sauce, rice vinegar, and sesame oil in a small saucepan over medium heat until heated through.
  • Toss the baked meatballs in the saucepan with the sauce, coating them evenly.
  • Slice the sub rolls in half and lightly toast them if desired.
  • Assemble by placing several meatballs into each sub roll and drizzle with additional sauce.
  • Top each sub with shredded lettuce, sliced cucumbers, and sliced green onions.
  • Serve the sweet chili turkey meatball subs warm.

Notes

Feel free to add sliced jalapeños for a spicy kick! Make sure not to overmix the meatball ingredients to keep them tender.
